Pima Medical Institute's flagship campus is the former site of Townsend Middle School. The 50,000 sq. ft. building is organized around a beautiful courtyard that encompasses approximately 25,000 sq. ft. The exterior of the former Tucson Unified School District building has been preserved and updated, while the interior has been completely remodeled to give it a collegiate look and feel.
The team partners included Pima Medical Institute, Summit Development Group, Rio West Development & Construction Inc., Seaver Franks Architects, Inc. AIA, Within Studio Interior Design, KC Mechanical Engineering, Turner Structural Engineering, Matthews Consulting & Design, Old Pueblo Theatrical Solutions, Spendiarian & Willis Acoustics & Noise Control LLC, Rick Engineering and Addisigns, Inc. The team, along with broker James Marian of Chapman Lindsey Commercial Real Estate Services LLC, worked closely with neighborhood and City of Tucson officials.
The team worked with the local neighborhoods and city officials to transform an abandoned middle school lot into a state-of-the-art medical career college.
A common thread throughout the design is the crossing lines. These lines represent the different careers the PMI students will be trained in. Their paths cross now and will cross again in the future. Graduates are trained in fields including dental assistant, phlebotomy, occupational and physical therapy, x-ray technician, healthcare administration and respiratory therapy.
